Getting There: The most direct route is the M9 metro line, with the Olimpiyat station located near the stadium. From central areas like Taksim, travellers can take the M2 metro to Yenikapı, transfer to the M1A line to Otogar, and then connect to the M9 line towards Olimpiyat. Additionally, several bus lines, including 146T, 79FY, 79K, MK13, and MK15, serve stops within walking distance of the stadium.

Located in the Başakşehir district, the Atatürk Olympic Stadium is Türkiye’s largest stadium, with a seating capacity of 77,563. Constructed between 1997 and 2002, it was initially built for Türkiye’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games. Owned by the Government of Türkiye, the stadium has hosted various football clubs, including Galatasaray and Beşiktaş, and is currently used by Fatih Karagümrük.

Getting There: The most convenient public transport option is the M2 metro line; passengers can board from central stations like Taksim or Şişhane and alight at Sanayi Mahallesi station. From there, a dedicated M2 metro line connects to Seyrantepe station, which is adjacent to the stadium. Additionally, several bus routes serve the area, and the stadium is accessible via the Otoyol 2 motorway for those travelling by car. Rams Park features extensive parking facilities, including four multi-story garages accommodating over 3,000 vehicles.  

Rams Park, officially known as Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi, is situated in the Seyrantepe quarter of the Sarıyer district. Opened in 2011, it serves as the home ground for Galatasaray S.K. With a seating capacity of 53,978, it’s part of a larger sports complex named after the club’s founder. 

The stadium was the first in Türkiye to meet UEFA Euro 2016 requirements and has been recognised for its design and facilities. It includes 221 suites and has hosted both domestic league matches and international fixtures. 

Galatasaray S.K., founded in 1905, is one of Türkiye’s most successful football clubs, boasting a record 25 Süper Lig titles. In the 2024–25 season, under manager Okan Buruk, they secured their third consecutive league championship, finishing eight points ahead of rivals Fenerbahçe. This triumph granted them the historic right to add a fifth star to their crest, symbolising 25 league titles. Additionally, Galatasaray clinched the 2024–25 Turkish Cup, completing a domestic double.

The Galatasaray S.K. museum, inaugurated in 2018 within the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex, showcases a vast collection of over 700 trophies and medals, including the prestigious UEFA Cup (1999-2000) and UEFA Super Cup (2000), reflecting the club’s achievements across various sports disciplines. Getting There: The nearest main public transportation stop is the Marmaray train station at Söğütlüçeşme (two stops from Sırkecı on the European side), located approximately a 10-minute walk from the stadium. For those travelling from the European side of Istanbul, taking a ferry to Kadıköy, followed by a 20-minute walk to the stadium or the Metrobus to Söğütlüçeşme, is also feasible. Several bus lines, such as the 19S and Kadiköy-Pendik, have stops near the stadium, providing convenient access.  

Located in the Kadıköy district on the Asian side of Istanbul, the Ülker Stadium, also known as Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium, is the home of Fenerbahçe S.K. The stadium has a seating capacity of 50,530 and underwent significant renovations between 1999 and 2006 to modernise its facilities. 

The stadium has hosted numerous domestic and international matches, including the 2009 UEFA Cup Final, between Shakhtar Donetsk (2) and Werder Bremen (1). It features 132 skyboxes and integrates commercial spaces, reflecting its multifunctional design. 

Founded in 1907, Fenerbahçe S.K. is one of Türkiye’s most successful and widely supported football clubs. The club boasts 28 Turkish national championship titles, including victories in both the Turkish Football Championship and the Süper Lig era. Additionally, Fenerbahçe has secured 9 Turkish Super Cups and 7 Turkish Cups, solidifying its status as a dominant force in Turkish football history. Getting There: Tüpraş Stadium is located near Dolmabahçe Palace and the Bosphorus. Visitors from the historic centre of Istanbul can take the T1 Bağcılar–Kabataş tramway to the Kabataş stop, followed by a short walk to the stadium. From the Asian side, ferries from Kadıköy and Üsküdar to Beşiktaş docks provide convenient access, with the stadium just a five-minute walk away. Additionally, many buses serve the area; however, during match days and concerts, the streets around the stadium are often closed off, and buses are diverted. The F1 funicular from Taksim to Kabataş offers another route.  

Situated in the Beşiktaş district near the Bosphorus, Tüpraş Stadium, formerly known as Vodafone Park, is the home ground of Beşiktaş J.K. Opened in 2016, it has a seating capacity of 42,590. The stadium was constructed on the site of the former İnönü Stadium, preserving some historical elements. 

The stadium is notable for its modern design, including 147 suites and advanced technological features like high-speed Wi-Fi and interactive monitors. It has hosted significant events, such as the 2019 UEFA Super Cup. 

Founded in 1903, Beşiktaş J.K. is one of Türkiye’s most historic and successful football clubs. The club has secured 16 Süper Lig titles, with notable triumphs in the 2002–03, 2008–09, 2015–16, and 2016–17 seasons. One of Beşiktaş’s most famous European games is arguably their 3–0 victory over Liverpool at İnönü Stadium in the 2007 UEFA Champions League group stage, celebrated for its electrifying atmosphere and historic upset against the English giants. In the 2024–25 season, under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Beşiktaş finished third in the Süper Lig and won the Turkish Super Cup.

The Beşiktaş JK Museum, situated within Tüpraş Stadium, is Türkiye’s largest officially registered sports museum, spanning 1,650 square meters over two floors. 5. Sinan Erdem Dome

Getting There: Sinan Erdem Dome is well-served by multiple public transportation options. The M1A metro line’s Ataköy–Şirinevler station is the nearest metro stop, situated approximately a 5-minute walk from the arena. Additionally, several bus routes, including 31E, 71T, 79B, 82, and MR20, have stops near the venue.

Located in the Ataköy neighbourhood, the Sinan Erdem Dome is Türkiye’s largest indoor arena, with a seating capacity of 16,000 for basketball and up to 22,500 for concerts. Opened in 2010, it is named after Sinan Erdem, a former Turkish volleyball player and sports administrator. 

As of the 2024–2025 season, the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul serves as the home court for several prominent basketball teams as well as international tennis matches and concerts. Beşiktaş Emlakjet and Bahçeşehir Koleji S.K. both host their Turkish Basketball Super League (BSL) games at this venue. Additionally, the Turkish national basketball team utilises the arena for its home matches. Previously, Anadolu Efes and Galatasaray Ekmas also played their home games at the Sinan Erdem Dome; however, Anadolu Efes moved to the newly opened Basketball Development Centre in 2024. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality owns the stadium. 

Basketball is one of Türkiye’s most popular sports after football, with strong domestic leagues and passionate fan support. The Turkish men’s national basketball team, known as the “12 Giant Men,” gained international prominence by finishing second in EuroBasket 2001 and again reached the final in the 2010 FIBA World Championship, held in Istanbul, where they lost to the USA.

The women’s national team, known as the “Fairies of the Basket,” also emerged as a competitive force in the 2010s, placing fifth in the 2012 London Olympics and securing bronze (2013) and silver (2011) medals in EuroBasket tournaments. Both teams regularly qualify for European and World competitions, and Türkiye’s strong club infrastructure, with top teams like Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahçe winning EuroLeague and EuroCup titles, has elevated the country’s global basketball standing.


6. Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium

Located in the Başakşehir district, this stadium is the home of İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. Opened in 2014, it has a seating capacity of 17,319. Named after the legendary Turkish footballer and manager Fatih Terim, the stadium was designed to meet international standards. 

The facility includes training pitches and a campus, reflecting its role in nurturing football talent. Its design incorporates unique features, such as curved end stands and a high roof, enhancing the spectator experience.

İstanbul Başakşehir F.K., established in 1990 as İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi Spor Kulübü, rebranded in 2014 to its current name and has since emerged as a significant force in Turkish football. The club achieved a historic milestone by winning its first Süper Lig title in the 2019–20 season, becoming only the sixth club to secure the championship and the fourth from Istanbul to do so. In European competitions, Başakşehir has made notable appearances, including topping their group in the 2019–20 UEFA Europa League and reaching the Round of 16. As of the 2024–25 season, they are competing in the Süper Lig and participating in the UEFA Conference League, reflecting their continued presence in both domestic and European football arenas.


7. Ülker Sports and Event Hall

Situated in the Ataşehir district, the Ülker Sports and Event Hall is a multi-purpose indoor arena with a seating capacity of 13,059 for basketball and up to 15,000 for concerts. Opened in 2012, it serves as the home for Fenerbahçe’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. 

The arena features modern amenities, including VIP lounges, restaurants, and one of Europe’s largest scoreboards. It also houses Türkiye’s first basketball museum, highlighting its significance in promoting the sport. 

Fenerbahçe’s men’s basketball team, known as Fenerbahçe Beko, has established itself as a powerhouse in European basketball. The team secured its second EuroLeague title in the 2024–25 season. Domestically, Fenerbahçe Beko has won 14 Turkish Basketball Super League championships, including the 2023–24 season, and has claimed the Turkish Cup nine times, most recently in 2025. Under the guidance of head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius, the team features prominent players such as Marko Gudurić, Nigel Hayes-Davis, and Sertaç Şanlı.  

Fenerbahçe’s women’s basketball team has also achieved remarkable success, particularly in recent years. They clinched back-to-back EuroLeague Women titles in the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons and secured the FIBA Europe SuperCup Women in both 2023 and 2024. 8. Ataköy Athletics Arena

Adjacent to the Sinan Erdem Dome in the Ataköy neighbourhood, the Ataköy Athletics Arena is Türkiye’s premier indoor track and field venue. Opened in 2012, it has a seating capacity of 7,450. The arena was constructed to host the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. 

Owned by the Turkish Athletic Federation, the facility has hosted various international competitions, including the 2023 European Indoor Championships. Its design meets international standards, making it a key venue for athletics in Türkiye. 

The Turkish Athletic Federation (TAF), established in 1922, has been instrumental in the development of athletics in Türkiye. Over the years, Turkish athletes have achieved significant success on the international stage. Notably, Ruhi Sarıalp secured Turkey’s first Olympic athletics medal with a bronze in the triple jump at the 1948 London Olympics. At the World Athletics Championships, Türkiye has earned a total of four medals, including a gold medal by Ramil Guliyev in the men’s 200 metres in 2017, and silver medals by Süreyya Ayhan in the women’s 1500 metres in 2003 and Karin Melis Mey in the women’s long jump in 2009.


9. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium

Following Eyüpspor’s promotion to the Süper Lig in the 2023–24 season, the club transitioned from its previous home, Eyüp Stadium in Eyüpsultan, to this larger facility to accommodate the increased fan base and meet league requirements. The stadium has undergone renovations to meet modern standards and continues to host Süper Lig matches, contributing to the local football culture.

Kasımpaşa S.K., founded in 1921 as Kasımpaşa Gençlik Kulübü, is a professional football club based in Istanbul’s central Beyoğlu district. The club’s early years were marked by participation in the Istanbul First League, and they achieved promotion to the Turkish National League in 1959 after winning the Third Federation Cup finals in the 1958–59 season. After a period in lower divisions, Kasımpaşa made a remarkable ascent, achieving back-to-back promotions from the TFF Third League to the Süper Lig between 2004 and 2007, a record in Turkish football. As of the 2024–25 season, under the management of Burak Yılmaz, Kasımpaşa is competing in the Süper Lig. 

Eyüpspor, established in 1919, is one of Istanbul’s oldest football clubs and was, until recently, based in the historic Eyüpsultan district. The club has spent much of its history in the lower tiers of Turkish football but has experienced a significant rise in recent years. After finishing first in the 2023–24 TFF First League, Eyüpspor secured promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in its history, marking a significant milestone for the club.


10. Vefa Stadium

Located in the Fatih district, Vefa Stadium is one of Istanbul’s historic football venues. It serves as the home ground for Vefa S.K. and has a seating capacity of approximately 6,500. The club competes in the Turkish Regional Amateur League, the fifth tier of the Turkish football league system. The stadium, known initially as Çukurbostan Sahası, was constructed in 1926 within the ancient Byzantine-era Cistern of Aetius, adding a unique historical dimension to its setting.

Over the years, it has also been utilised by Fatih Karagümrük S.K. However, due to compliance issues with Süper Lig standards, Fatih Karagümrük has played its home matches at alternative venues, such as the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. Vefa S.K., established in 1908, is one of Istanbul’s historic football clubs, rooted in the Vefa neighbourhood of the Fatih district. The club has a rich legacy, having competed in the top tiers of Turkish football during the early to mid-20th century. Although Vefa S.K. has not secured major national trophies, it holds the distinction of being the first and only Turkish club to be coached by a female manager, Özgür Gözüaçık Akyıldız. Currently, the team competes in the Bölgesel Amatör Lig 1st Grup, which is the fifth level of Turkish football.

It has a seating capacity of around 5,291 and serves as the home ground for Esenler Erokspor. Esenler Erokspor, founded on 16 November 1959, is a football club based in the Esenler district of Istanbul. The team currently competes in the TFF First League (1. Lig), the second tier of Turkish football. The club is chaired by Zafer Topaloğlu and managed by head coach Bülent Korkmaz.  


Maltepe Stadium

It serves as the home ground for Maltepespor and has a seating capacity of approximately 5,000. İstanbul Maltepespor was established in 1923 in the Maltepe district of Istanbul. Initially named Maltepe Gençler Birliği, the club underwent several name changes and mergers, notably with Maltepe Güneşspor and Maltepe Ağaspor, before adopting its current name.
